PM THOMAS REPORTS ON MEETING WITH PRESIDENT BUSH
Grenada’s Prime Minister, Tillman Thomas, who is also the current Chairman of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), met with US President George Bush at the White House on Wednesday, and characterised the meeting as "interesting" A report from CMC said that the meeting touched on trade, security, climate change, the current global financial crisis – in particular high food and fuel costs – with Bush inquiring about the welfare of ordinary Grenadians. Thomas took the opportunity to appeal to the US President for assistance towards the restoration of Grenada's centuries’ old Parliament building that was destroyed by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. “I regard that as a very important institution within the democratic system and it seems as if President Bush sees it as a priority too so it is a matter we are going to follow up on," the Grenada leader said. “We are not only neighbours, but we share a common tradition so we are concerned about the security of the region, trade and climate change,” Thomas said after his half-hour White House meeting.
