WORLD STANDARDS DAY
‘Intelligent and Sustainable Buildings’ is the theme for World Standards Day celebrated in Grenada and the rest of the world, yesterday, Tuesday October 14, 2008. This theme was chosen by the leaders of the world’s three principal organizations responsible for developing standards, i.e., the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), in order to remind engineers, contractors, financial institutions and potential home owners of the need to strive for the implementation of standards so as to ensure the construction of structures that can provide for the safety of our citizens. The Grenada Bureau of Standards celebrated World Standards Day on Tuesday October 14, with: - a half day symposium on the theme at the Bureau’s conference room from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Topics discussed at this symposium were: (i) Buildings to meet the Demands of Natural Disasters (ii) Building with Focus on Energy Efficiency (iii) Construction Safety and Health (iv) Importance of Materials Testing An in-house exhibition was also be held in the lobby area of the Bureau on the same day showcasing information and standards relevant to this year’s theme for World Standard’s Day.
