The new Grenada government has been trying to establish the citizenship status of former prime minister Keith Mitchell, the country's current opposition leader.
The government says it has evidence that Dr Mitchell is a US citizen.
But the New National Party leader has denied that that's the case.
The Attorney General's office in St Georges says it has correspondence from the US Justice Department confirming that Keith Mitchell is a US citizen.
According to the government, the document shows that Dr Mitchell attained American citizenship in January of 1984.
However the NNP leader has suggested that his status is being misrepresented, and told journalists at a news conference that he no longer holds US citizenship.
