OFFICE OF THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE COMMENTS ON THE AR...
Commissioner of Police Mr. James Clarkson has given the assurance that the action of the Police in the town of St. George on Wednesday morning was never intended to stop or lessen the exuberance of person or persons celebrating the historic election of Senator Barack Obama to the office of President, in the United States of America. It must be noted that there were a number of celebratory activities across the nation with no incidents reported. Mr. Clarkson took the opportunity to clear the air as it relates to the arrest of Mr. Roilez Coutain of Grand Anse in St. George’s. Mr. Coutain age 63, was arrested on Wednesday morning, and charged for the use of insulting language and resisting arrest. The Commissioner of Police has also instructed the Department of Audit, Anti Corruption, Research and Development to look into the occurrences that led to the arrest of Mr. Coutain. Obama winning the election is the greatest event in history, and I dont blame Mr.Coutain for celebrating. There are laws in Grenada such as noise polution act.The police are here to see that laws are not broken. If a police officer ask Mr Coutain to stop the noise he should stop so therefore he deserve to be arrested. And tell the Officers of the Law that they are stupid maybe he should spent a night in jail.Maybe his minor children told him he was stupid and he saw nothing wrong with that.Iam a Grenadian-born US ciitizen and we cannot disobey the police in the States ,and as a black man you'll be shot

Fair you write pure nonsense. Now what does arresting someone for using dirty language have to do with the foolishness you are putting out. Maybe this and maybe that. Talk sense. You sound like a dam idiot.

Using foul language huh? What foul language was used? Some of you just like to depend on hear-say and jump to conclusions. Grenadians were happy, but Coutain had special reasons to be extremely elated - maybe he understands the struggles of the civil rights movements in the 1960s under King, Meger Evers and the like to ensure the dream of a black president becomes a reality. Maybe he has experienced racism in the US and is happy to see that people are able to judge Barack bas3d on the content of his character and not on the color of his skin; maybe he left Grenada to travel all the way to the US to vote early and is happy that he has contributed towards the creation of history and abovce all, he is able to see that history created in his lifetime. When you have persons who lapparently lack that intellectual content/capacity and are unable to make reasoned, logical assessments of situations and use their discretion in a manner that is non-confrontational and conflict-avoiding, things like that will happen. People celebrated tthat historic acconplishment maybe even in Iran, Iraq and Venzuela, but we arresting in Grenada .... interesting!! With technology, any little thing that happens in the most remote part of the world could make it onto the world stage. I understand the information was on CNN and BBC (not to sure how true that is, but, if that was the case, I am really embarassed as a Grenadian and think our lawmen need to receive more training to avoid such embarassments in the future.

Brother Gabe, you are a fellow of intellectual wisdom. You are so correct and exact. Grenadians ought to obey the laws and start setting an example. If a fellow like that would go out and start using that type of language, this is sending the wrong message to our youth. The police was quite right in arresting him. Maybe a moderate fine to his pocket book would be appropiate. Boy it hurts when they take u money u know. This is good. e go learn not to do it any more.

Good day my friends and fellow grenadians this is my take on the issue of the arrest of Mr Coutain, people of grenada please understand that as pleased as we are on the election of our brother Mr Obama to the high chair of president of the U S A we have to show restraint in the way we conduct our self during the celebration and the use of obsence language during and after the celebration is not one of them, the law is the law and we should be seen to be upholding the law and therefore i am on the side of the CO,and with this rider that the gentleman concern be given a reprimand as to his future conduct and the use of absence language and this goes for all our people who too often uses this type of foul language in front of our children.
