PRIME MINISTER THOMAS SIGNALS REBALANCING OF SOCIETY
Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas has signaled the government’s intention to “rebalance” the society without “any victimisation.” Speaking at a recent sitting of Parliament, the Prime Minister pointed to the Government Information Service,(GIS) and Her majesty’s Prison Service, as two examples of institutions that were affected by direct political interference and are in need of rebalancing. The Prime Minister said political interference has “created an atmosphere where people were not allowed to function properly and perform their work well. The standards that should have been maintained by these institutions had fallen significantly.” Prime Minister Thomas also pointed out that the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) should be “taken seriously”, describing it as an important agency to the government and people of Grenada. “NADMA needs to be staffed properly to make sure the country is ready to deal with any disaster. We need technical people who can make the right decisions,” he said, noting that, “these institutions must be managed so that public confidence” can be attracted and maintained. He said capacity building and improved links with other parishes and organisations in Grenada are critical if public confidence is to be achieved. The Prime Minister laid the responsibility for this “rebalancing” squarely at the feet of his four month old administration. Inside Grenada News
