GRENADA PRESENTS PLANS FOR REVITALISATION OF AGRICULTU...
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Hon. Denis Michael Lett, is currently in Rome attending the 34th Session of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The meeting opened on Monday 17th November and is expected to continue for the week. The 34th Session of the FAO will among other things consider the internal review of the functioning of the FAO and agree on ways to strengthen that organisation. Minister Lett is scheduled to outline his Government’s plans for stimulating and enhancing the agricultural sector to the 34th Session on Thursday morning. He will also support the reform initiatives being undertaken at the FAO and pledge Grenada’s commitment to the strengthening of that august body. The Food and Agriculture Organisation provides significant support to the activities of the Ministry of Agriculture. Recently, a ‘Restoring Livelihood Project’ was launched in Grenada and preparations are underway for the launching of a US$200,000 Input Supply for Soaring Prices project. Under this project, approximately 1000 farmers, single headed householders, women and 15 schools are expected to benefit from planting materials, livestock and other assistance to commence their own backyard gardens. Sen. Glen Noel will act as Minister of Agriculture during Minister Lett’s absence. Inside Grenada News
