HER MAJESTY’S OPPOSITION SAYS IT IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL NO...
St. George's, Grenada November 20th, 2008: Members of Her Majesty’s Opposition are expressing grave concern about the present constitutional status of the country and the fact that the country is without a Governor General. The Opposition is holding the current Government totally responsible for this unfortunate situation because they ought to know the implications of this for the country. In addition, the Opposition is amazed that the Prime Minister chooses to leave the island at a time when the appointment of a new Head of State is pending and the office remains vacant. Dr. Mitchell recalls the role past Governor General Sir Paul Scoon played in the events surrounding the collapse of the Grenada Revolution and says the Prime Minister ought to be concerned and must treat this matter as one of priority. The opposition believes that the Government had sufficient time to prepare for the swearing in of a new Governor General as they had ample notice that the former Governor General Sir Daniel Williams was demitting office. Members of the opposition take this opportunity to recognize the contribution of the former Governor General and the years of unswerving support and service he gave to his country and wishes him all the best on his retirement.
