PAM TO BENEFIT FROM LONDON EVENT

The Programme for Adolescent Mothers (PAM - Grenada) and the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (London, UK), are the main beneficiaries of the proceeds of a raffle held during the 4th Annual Calabash Awards, held at the Holiday Inn Bloomsbury, London on November 15th, 2008. The Calabash Awards Ceremony is held annually to acknowledge and recognise the great efforts that are made by hard working members of the community in pushing Soca music onwards and upwards in the UK. The Awards, sponsored by the Grenada Board of Tourism, were granted in the following categories: 1. The Calabash Best Soca Artist Award 2. The Calabash Best Club/Party DJ Award 3. The Calabash Best Soca Promotion Award 4. The Calabash Best Radio DJ Award 5. The Calabash Best Young Soca DJ Award Specially chosen Awards were granted in the following categories: 1. The Tony Cumberbatch Award 2. The Silver Calabash - Special Contribution 3. The Golden Calabash – Outstanding Achievement 4. The Platinum Calabash – Lifetime Achievement The Ceremony was attended by the High Commissioner for Grenada, HE Ms. Ruth Elizabeth Rouse and Ms. Gillian Sodah of the Grenada Board of Tourism (UK), as well as a sold-out crowd. Listed among the entertainers was Grenada’s own Akima Paul, who is currently residing in London. The man behind this annual event is Mr. Matthew Ross, known as “The Bald-headed Grenadian”, supported by his wife Paulette. Mr. Ross himself will present the cheque to PAM during his next visit to Grenada early in 2009. The event raised just over £700 for the two charities.
