CURTAINS COME DOWN ON 2008 GCIC/GNA INTERSECTOR NETBAL...
On Friday November 28, 2008 the curtains came down on the 2008 GCIC/GNA Intersector Tournament. A large crowd turnout was on hand to witness the closing of the month long Tournament which had been the headline of all sport news within the country. A delay in the start of the playoff for third and fourth place between Huggins and SGU Pacers 1 was accepted by spectators as they patiently waited on the arrival of the SGU Pacers 1 team. Huggins on the other hand was ready to get things started as they had been on court since 4:45pm although the game was at 6pm. The game began at approximately 6:25pm with Huggins fielding a full team against SGU Pacers 1 which had only five players. Huggins dominated the game from the first quarter, giving spectators a good show which was missing from their semi final game. At the end of the third quarter SGU Pacer 1 advised the umpires that they were unable to complete the game as one of the five players was injured and they will not continue with four. The score at the time read Huggins 39 and SGU Pacers 7. It was now down to the main highlight of the evening, the championship game. Ministry of Sports versus the undefeated Hubbards. As the game began one could hear the loud cheering from the spectators and also visible was the absence of top player Connie Belfon from the ministry of Sports. At the end of the first quarter the teams were separated by five points with the advantage to Ministry of Sports. By the end of the game it was very clear who was the winner as Ministry of Sports had pulled away from Hubbards greatly throughout the quarters. The final score read Ministry of Sports 35 and Hubbards 18. However if one was not sure of the score they could easily have imagined that Hubbards won based on the celebration by the team. In post game interviews Hubbards team told reporters that although they lost to Ministry of Sports they feel as though they have won the game as the mere fact theat they have beaten so many other teams and their only loss it at the Ministry of Sports is by itself a great victory. they were also happy that they did not allow Ministry of Sports to score the normally fifty and higher that they would on teams. A prize giving ceremony immediately followed the game where the following prizes were awarded: March past winners: Police Bosses Shootout: Nurse Priscilla Hopkins representing Nurses team Spectator Shootout: Ms. Rachel Howard Most supportive spectator: Ms. Edlyn 'Pinky' Agard 3rd Place: Huggins 2nd place: Hubbards 1st place: Ministry of Sports All teams participating in the Tournament received a Token of Participation from the Grenada Netball Association. At th end of it all one could easily say that new friednships were formed, old ones were renewed and existing were strengthened. Thanks for your participation as we look forward to seeing you again in 2009 and look out for the return of Ms Intersector. Inside Grenada News
