Spice Isle Imaging Center, Grenada¹s first and only full-service radiology center is adding more high-tech equipment to its lineup with the addition of a GE Open MRI machine. According to the center’s owner Dominic Paul, “Since it¹s an open scanner, persons who are claustrophobic will be able to take advantage of this added comfort. Having the service here at home removes the burdens of the exorbitant cost of airfare and the hassle of traveling.” Since its introduction in 1983, MRI Magnetic Resonance Imaging has grown considerably and so has the demand for the service because of its superior imaging capability. An MRI scan produces multiplanar images that are very detailed, allowing the specialist to see pathology, tumors etc., deep within the tissues of the body with a high level of accuracy, consequently enabling excellent diagnosis and avoiding the need for exploratory invasive surgery. Whereas CT scans produces mainly axial images, MRI, because of its superior nature produces images in coronal, sagittal and transverse planes. One advantage of MRI over CT is that it does not use radiation. Spice Isle Imaging Center has been in operation since July 2004 and Paul and his team have been helping physicians on the island make accurate life-saving diagnoses since then. “We look forward to being of service to Grenadians and taking care of all the island’s MRI needs in a professional and confidential manner with a well-trained and competent staff,” Paul says.
