LONDON, England, Saturday December 6th 2008_On Saturday December 6th, 2008, the Ladywell Centre at Lewisham was transformed into a Christmas Cheer Holiday Home for the elderly in the community. The Executive and Members of the Grenada Benevolent Society (GBS) hosted their Third Bi-annual Dinner for Senior Citizens, with the meal prepared by the male members of the society. The colourful presentation and stately décor brought much joy to the over 120 persons present and the feeling of an “old-time” Christmas, like the ones they used to know many years ago in Grenada. The idea of a Christmas Dinner was conceived by the GBS to give something back to the Grenadian Community and to say “Thanks” to their supporters who were no longer able to attend events, but who had made significant contributions to the Society in the past. The event is alternated with a children’s Christmas Party. The High Commissioner for Grenada HE Ruth Elizabeth Rouse, congratulated the President of the Society, Mr. Simeon Williams members of the GBS for the love and concern shown to the elder statesmen and women in the community, and also commended the involvement of the Youth with this worthwhile venture. The Grenada Benovolent Society {GBS} has been in existence for more than forty years, during which time the group has grown from strength to strength, and has lent support to institutional building in Grenada and in particular, the sister isles of Carriacou and Petite Martinique.
