The sport of basketball in Carriacou has been given an additional boost thanks to Peace Corp volunteer Daniel Costie. Costie who is originally from Michigan, U.S.A said during last year’s Thanksgiving dinner with his family they decided to contribute towards the sport and over twenty-five (25) sponsors both in the USA and Canada also contributed. The items, which included fifteen (15) basketballs, three (3) soccer balls, six (6) basketball nets, twelve (12) training jerseys and two (2) stop watches were handed over to Sports Officer in the Ministry of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs, Joel Lendore by Costie’s parents Bob and Veronica Costie. Lendore on accepting said that the items would help take the sport to higher level and improve the game especially among the primary and secondary students. Personal Assistant to the Minister, Anderson Matheson was also on hand to witness the handing over. Some of the sponsors included MC Sports and Field Fabrics.
