PM PLEASED AT OBAMA'S INAUGURATION
Grenada’s Prime Minister Tillman Thomas believes the swearing in of the first African American president of the United States amounts to a positive development for the Caribbean. “I think it is a good thing for us. It places us in a position where I think we are in a stronger bargaining position,” Thomas said, in a comment to reporters following the inauguration of Barack Obama. Grenadians were glued to their television sets as the former senator from Illinois took the oath of office as the 44th president of the US before a large gathering in Washington on Tuesday. Thomas, who is chairman of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) grouping, also suggests that Obama’s election holds special value for the Caribbean, which has involved in the struggle for decolonisation, equality and justice.
