Government Minister Honorable Joseph Gilbert says that state-run corporations have a critical role to play in national development, and he wants them to work more closely with the administration of Prime Minister Tillman Thomas. He made the comment Friday morning at a meeting with the chairpersons of corporations that fall under his ministry. Mr. Gilbert is the Minister for Works, Physical Development, Public Utilities and the Environment. In an exchange of views and ideas, the representatives of the corporations briefed the minister on the current operations and future plans of their respective organizations, which included NAWASA, Grenada Solid Waste Authority and the Grenada Transport Board. Others at the meeting were the heads of Gravel and Concrete Corporation, Grenada Postal Corporation, National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority, and the Land Development Authority. Mr. Gilbert, for his part, emphasized the importance of partnership and collaboration between the corporations and the government. All sides applauded the idea of Friday's meeting. They agreed that similar meetings would be held quarterly, with the next scheduled for April. From: GIS INSIDE GRENADA NEWS
