Monday, January 26th, 2009- It was a humiliating defeat for Maran, St.John’s Cricket Team in their match against Laurena Mt. Royal All Stars Cricket Club. Participating in the Champion of Champions competition organized by the Ministry of Sports, Mt. Royal batting first, scored two hundred and fifty eight (258) runs all out. In reply, Maran lost its first wicket for only seven (7) runs and by the 19th over, they had seventy-six (76) runs for the loss of seven (7) wickets. Maran was only able to score one hundred and fifty-two (152) runs. Top scorer for Mt. Royal was Elton Joseph who made seventy-six (76) runs while Kenrick Julien was the outstanding bowler for Mt. Royal he took four (4) wickets for thirty-one (31) runs. Mt.Royal next match will be on Saturday, January 31st at Progress Park, St.Andrew’s, where they will come up against R.E Walker River View, then on February 1st they will play Veterans from St.David’s at LaSagesse Playing Field. Mt.Royal next match at home will be on Sunday, February 8th when they will come up against Hermitage at the Hillsborough Playing Field.
