ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, 28th JANUARY, 2009_ Grenada’s newly appointed Ambassador to the European Union (EU), Stephen Fletcher on Monday paid courtesy calls on key officials of the Development & EuropeAid Division of the EU. Mr Fletcher met with John CALOGHIROU, Head of Unit, who oversees relations with the Caribbean region, Cristina CALABRO, Desk Officer for the Caribbean and Daniel HURATADO DOMINGUEZ, Coordinator for the Caribbean. Ambassador Fletcher discussed a wide range of issues with the EU officials including strengthening the partnership between the Grenada & the EU, the need for increasing political dialogue between the partners, the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), the 10th EDF, CARICOM and developments in the CARICOM Single Market and Economy. Grenada’s Ambassador reiterated the country's commitment to strengthening the relationship with the EU, while playing a pivotal role in regional development and the deepening of Caribbean integration. He pointed to the Memorandum Of Understanding signed between Grenada and Trinidad & Tobago as evidence of the island’s commitment to the regional process. He recalled the commitment of Grenada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Hon. Peter David, to the EPA during the first weeks of the new administration coming into office. The Ambassador expressed the Grenada government’s appreciation to the EU delegation for their assistance, which aided the island’s recovery from the devastation caused by Hurricane Ivan, particularly with regard to the school repair program. The EU delegation was eager to learn of new developments occurring in Grenada under the new administration. A delegation from the EU will be visiting Grenada, next week. INSIDE GRENADA NEWS
