WALL STREET UPDATE  
Members of the Royal Grenada Police Force, Mr. Malcolm Antoine of the Ministry of Communications and Works and the executive of the Wall Street Food and Beverage Vendors concluded a second round of meetings this morning to address the vending situation at the Grand Anse location. The meeting addressed approaches and solutions for both the short and long term vending operations at the area. Mr. Antoine outlined the way forward to the vendors emphasizing to need to activate and legitimize the functions of the Co-operative, formalize its membership, immediately apply to the necessary authorities to use the area as a vending zone, secure the required licenses and certification to conduct their operations and consider the use of an alternative location. Superintendent Edvin Martin articulated the security concerns of the Force and promised fullest cooperation as the process is moved forward. The vendors made a special request to be allowed to conduct business on the week end of Friday January 30th to Sunday February 1st 2009 to capitalize of the Annual Sailing Festival activities in the Grand Anse area. They were advised that they should apply to the relevant Government Department for temporary permission to conduct operations for the period with the following conditions:- 1. All persons involved in vending operations be properly registered 2. Secure licenses for the sale of alcoholic beverages 3. Discontinue the sale of beverages and food in bottles and glassware. 4. All vending operations must end at 12.00 am The Commissioner of Police would be advised by the Ministry of Communication and Works on the status of the vendors’ request. As it relates to the long term operations at the location, the Ministry of Communications and Works and other related Government Departments will advise accordingly.
