PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FROM MINISRTY OF SOCIAL DEV...  
STATUS OF PUBLIC ASSISTANCE PROGRAMME The Ministry of Social Development, Social Security, Ecclesiastic Affairs and Labour informs the public that the list of persons receiving public assistance is being reviewed. The review is part of an annual requirement mandated by a policy decision. However, this exercise was not carried out consistently in the recent past. The process of re- registration starts the reassessment aspect of the review. Reassessment would determine persons eligibility based on the following set of criteria: 1. Persons who are assessed as being needy and are unemployed 2. Persons rendered unable to work due to physical/ mental disability or chronic diseases or illness 3. Persons whose average income do not exceed the threshold of the indigent poverty line 4. Persons who are not in receipt of pension and/ or not supported by family members 5. Persons who do not operate their own businesses e.g. operate shops or rental of property 6. Persons who travel abroad for one or more months are not eligible for assistance during the period of travel 7. Persons who are not residents of government owned/ assisted geriatric homes. The Ministry of Social Development is making every effort to ensure that persons who meet the criteria receive the benefit. Persons who previously received the benefit and have been assessed to be ineligible would be informed in writing.
