NEW AMBASSADOR TO CUBA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

HAVANA, CUBA, Jan 31st, 2009 – Grenada has a new Ambassador to Cuba. Mr. Raphael Joseph presented his Letters of Credence to Vice-President, Juan Almeida Bosque on Thursday January 29th, 2009, accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Grenada, in the Republic of Cuba. The Cuban Vice-President welcomed the new envoy and congratulated him on his prestigious appointment. He noted that Cuba has always admired Grenada for the principled stand relative to the economic blockade and solidarity towards the Cuban people. He thanked the Government and people of Grenada for their generous contribution and technical assistance in the aftermath of the massive destruction caused by several hurricanes, indicating that Cuba greatly appreciated the gesture. Ambassador Joseph conveyed fraternal greetings from the Government and people of Grenada, to the Government and people of Cuba, expressing the hope that the excellent relations that exist between both countries, characterized by a sincere spirit of friendship, co-operation and mutual respect, would be further strengthened during his tour of duty. He took the opportunity to express appreciation to the Government of Cuba for all the assistance which it has rendered to Grenada over the years, particularly as it relates to infrastructural and human resource development. The top diplomat reassured the Vice-President that Cuba can count on the continued solidarity and support from Grenada, not only as it confronts its own domestic challenges, but also in its efforts to promote greater co-operation and collaboration throughout the wider Caribbean.
