As the Carriacou and Petite Martinique HIV/AIDS Committee headed by Vinishah Cudjoe strive to deal with the apparent continued indifference to the very real dangers of HIV/AIDS among members of the local populace, they will be hosting a series of activities during the first quarter of the year.
To assist with the planning of these activities Line Ministry/Civil Society Coordinator Bernadette Bartholomew met with the committee recently.
Focus will be placed on Carriacou Carnival which will be staged from February 20th -24th, 2009 where a booth will be set up on the grounds of the tourism office where condoms and educational materials will be distributed. One of the goals of the committee is to have at least 200 hundred persons tested during that period.
Other activities planned by the committee include a sensitization workshop for the teachers of Carriacou & Petite Martinique, a radio quiz on Kayak 106 FM.
In the month of March, a workers workshop is expected to be held.
Meanwhile, to aid in the work of the committee Peace Corps volunteer Alexandria Williams is seeking to secure funding from the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.
