ST.ANDREWS, Friday February 6, 2009 – The build-up to the St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School’s sports meeting for 2009 has been intense and at present, the quest for athletic supremacy among the four houses is interestingly poised. The four houses enmeshed in this very passionate but friendly rivalry are Julien’s House (red) - the winner for the past three years - Layne’s House (Yellow/Gold), Nash’s House (blue) and Pigott’s House (green). Based on the points standing at the end of the cross country – which concludes the heats program – Pigott’s House is going into sports day with a slight but healthy lead. Before the start of yesterday's cross country event, the points standing read as follows: Julien’s House – 341 Layne’s House – 294.5 Nash’s House – 366 Pigott’s House – 383.5 When the points were tallied after the event was held, Julien’s House was able to gain 117.5 points thereby moving up to 458.5; Layne’s House gained 83 and moved to 377.5; Nash’s House got 106 and moved up to 472 and Pigott’s House amassed 141 to move ahead to 524.5 points – 52.5 points ahead of their nearest rival, Nash’s House. The top five performers in yesterday’s cross country in the male category were: Levon Jeffery (Julien) Akim Henry (Layne) Travis Modeste (Pigott) Amikel Dubissette (Pigott) Ian St. Bernard (Pigott) In the female category, the top five performers were: Kishell Reuben (Nash) Kellion Charles (Layne) Tamisha Roberts (Julien) Deleon Charles (Pigott) Jade Rennie (Pigott) All attention is now focused on Progress Park where the four houses will engage in a final battle on Thursday February 12 to determine whether the house trophy will change hands in 2009. Thousands of spectators – students, past pupils and well-wishers – are expected to converge at Progress Park next week Thursday to witness the culmination of this keenly contested athletic rivalry.
