PRESIDENT OBAMA WRITES TO PRIME MINISTER THOMAS
ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA - The President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, has expressed confidence that the relationship between the United States and Grenada will continue to be a good one. In a letter responding to Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas’ congratulatory message on his inauguration, Mr. Obama said he is looking forward to working with the Prime Minister to promote “good relations between our countries.” The following is the full text of the US President’s message to Prime Minister Thomas. “Dear Mr. Prime Minister: Thank you for your congratulations on my election as President of the United States. Your thoughtful message is much appreciated. I am confident that we can work together in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a more secure world during the next four years. I look forward to working with you in that effort and in promoting good relations between our countries. Sincerely, Barack Obama” The message was delivered to the Prime Minister during a visit to the office of the Prime Minister by the US Charge D’ Affairs at the United States Embassy in Grenada, Karen Jo Mc Issac. During a visit to the United States last October, Prime Minister Thomas told a Congressional dinner Grenada and the region expects a change in foreign policy focus that may lead to the deepening and strengthening of our relationship. “The importance of strong relations between the USA and the Caribbean remains poignant for many reasons. Given our strategic location in the “front Yard” of the USA, our geopolitical role in terms of security is evident. The continuing need for effective collaboration in dealing with combating crime, drug trafficking and terrorism is paramount. As a significant trading partner serving as a major source of technology, goods, market, services and visitors, our economies are becoming closely linked,” the Prime Minister said. Most importantly however, it is my view that the relationship can be considerably enhanced with a new policy approach emphasizing more sensitivity and fairness towards the Caribbean. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a strong partnership with the United States for the mutual advancement of our people. From: Office of the Prime Minister INSIDE GRENADA NEWS
