Fellow Grenadians, it is with a sense of pride and patriotism that I address you on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of our Independence as a nation. As I reflect, the period has indeed been an eventful, challenging and in many respects a rewarding one. Inaugurated in political turmoil, punctuated by revolutionary experiment and national catastrophe, redeemed by constitutional democracy, rejuvenated by the promise of the restoration of integrity, renewing hope and building together, the nation state of Grenada is now emerging stronger than before. This strength is buttressed by the perceptiveness, the perseverance, the resilience and fortitude of our people. Qualities that have been bequeathed by our ancestors, and have endured the passage of time. As we celebrate thirty five years as a nation, I first take this opportunity to remember and recognize our Grenadian forefathers who have played a significant role in the early growth and development of our nation. Their vision, their dreams, their sacrifices and their actions have laid the foundation for our progress to date. As Think about the many challenges, the many hurdles and the diverse adversities that we as a people have surmounted, I cannot help, but admire our collective courage, our and our commitment and dedication to nation building. This must be recognized and built upon. Thirty five years as an independent nation means that we are still relatively young as a nation. Implicit in this reality is that we need to continue to focus on building the foundation for a just, solid and resilient country, capable of meeting the needs of our current and future citizens. We need to consolidate our modest gains and to build a robust, diversified, sustainable and strong economy. As we look forward to the next thirty five years, there will be many more challenges. The challenges of rebuilding our institutions, of renewing hope in our abilities and capabilities, of inculcating our tried and tested values, of addressing our social and economic issues, of creating a competitive country and delivering benefits to all Grenadian are all pertinent. Therefore we must resolve to work assiduously to address these issues in a timely manner. As our National anthem states “ Together we aspire Together we achieve”. As we celebrate, I urge all to remain steadfast in the pursuance of our dreams and aspirations to make Grenada a better place. May god bless our Nation. INSIDE GRENADA NEWS
