Aldin Phillip, also known as “Ossey”, who was wanted by local police for committing a number of criminal offenses (which include armed robbery and attempted murder), turned himself in at the Gouyave Police Station in the parish of St. John yesterday. The 34 year old man from Mt. Craven in St. Patrick’s is believed to have committed a number of criminal offenses since his recent release from the Richmond Hill Prison. Ossey is the chief suspect in a robbery which took place in La Poterie Monday evening which resulted in the shooting of one man. Police Commissioner, Mr. James Clarkson, during a press briefing yesterday, informed the nation that during police investigations into a number of criminal activities that have taken place in the country, Ossey’s name kept popping up, subsequently a bulletin was issued for his arrest. Ossey turned himself in shortly after the bulletin was issued. In recent times, there have been a number of robberies committed against business owners as well as against local residents in their homes throughout Grenada. It is believed that the downturn in the local economy (as a result of the global economic recession) and the resulting increase in the level of unemployment are key contributors to the spate of robberies.
