Hillsborough; Wednesday, February 25, 2009- He is not even a teenager as yet but many people believe that Mickel Joseph could be a future international track star for Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Joseph broke two of six records that were smashed at the February 19 annual inter-house sports meet of the L’Esterre Rosary School. He shaved 59 second off old 100 metres mark for boys under 13, winning in a new time of 13:10 second. The previous 100 metres record holder was Nial Joseph. Joseph was also a record setter in the 800 metres open boys’ race. He completed the course in 204:83 seconds. The old record time was 244:16 seconds. The L’Esterre Rosary track and field event, sponsored by First Caribbean International Bank, was the first major sporting activity to be held at the Carriacou mini-stadium. Among the many spectators in attendance was Senator Hon. George Prime, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs. Apart from outstanding performances from individual athletes such as Joseph, Ryan Thomas, Kyla Julien, Kelisha Samerson and Darion Fraser, the big team prize went to Francis House. The athletes in blue emerged as overall house winners with 287points. Stalin (Green House) placed second with 226 points, while Keturah (Yellow House) had to settle for third position with 220 points.
