Hillsborough, Wednesday, February 25, 2009- The Carriacou Historical Society (CHS) has paid glowing tribute to two stalwarts who have contributed immensely to the growth of the organization, which was founded 35 years ago. Members of the Society say the "sterling contributions'' by Patrick Compton and Dr. Edward Kent have helped "to preserve and enhance'' the cultural heritage of the 13-square-mile island. For 15 years, Mr. Compton served as executive director of the Historical Society's museum, and in 199, coordinated a visit to Carriacou by professors from the University of Puerto Rico. The visit was part of an exercise to document Carriacou's Shakespeare Mas', which forms part of their annual carnival celebrations. Historical Society member Brian Whyte has described Mr. Compton, an Honorary Life Member of the CHS, as having played "instrumental role'' in the building of the organization. Dr. Edward Kent was a founding member of the Society and, though aging, continues to take an active interest in its work. Immediate past president of the Society, Patricia John, said Dr. Kent's experience and guidance have been of "significant benefit'' to the CHS and all of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Hats off to Mr. Compton and Dr. Kent for their contribution! From Deanna Isaac Public Relations Officer, Ministry of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs INSIDE GRENADA NEWS
