PRIME MINISTER LOOKS FORWARD TO SOLVING TRADE CENTER CO...

Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas wishes for a harmonious resolution to the areas of concern with regard to the relationship between the Grenada Trade Center (GTC) and the government of Grenada. The recent statement by the Prime Minister, at his post cabinet media briefing, pointed to the need for an independent audit of the trade center to clarify and resolve claims by the management of the center that government owes the GTC over one million dollars. This audit, with the cooperation of the management of the Grenada Trade Center, will confirm the GTC’s claims or will help to bring clarity to the state of the arrangements between the two parties over the use of the Trade Center. Government stands ready and willing to resolve the issue in as amicable a manner as possible. It was not the intention of the Prime Minister to mislead or intimidate anyone. The Prime Minister’s comments were only meant to shed light on a decision of cabinet to resolve the matter through an audit process. We welcome Mr. Bedeau’s willingness to sit and discuss the matter thoroughly and to provide the required evidence to support his claim of an outstanding bill to the Grenada Trade Center. In the absence of this the government will abide by the recommendations of its advisory committee. Under the terms of the lease, as agreed by the previous administration, government has unfettered use of the Grenada Trade Center, free of all charges or fees, except those related to electricity, water and janitorial services.
