PLANS TO NAME GRENADA AIRPORT AFTER MAURICE BISHOP SPAR...
Public debate in Grenada rages on over plans to rename the Point Salines International Airport after the slain Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. Mr. Bishop was assassinated in 1983, and subsequent events led to a United States invasion. Current Prime Minister Tillman Thomas was himself jailed for two years under the Bishop administration. Despite this, Mr. Thomas' Government has approved in principle the renaming of the airport. The decision has received high praise from the former head of the Maurice Bishop Patriotic Movement, Dr. Terrence Marryshaw. But newspaper editor Leslie Pierre fiercely opposes it, saying it is unnecessary as there is already a Maurice Bishop highway. Reprinted from radioja.com

Sounds good, but first grenada need some smart governing. stop importing american food's and produce their own. be more resourseful. am planning on returning home, but still a bitreluctant to do so. i visited grenada and i felt like i was in a newyork supermarket. grenadian's are too hang up on that U.S.A dollar. a simple two bedroom house cost $300,000 us dollar. get real. last yea they need a new fresh airport building not just renameing it. people like when they travel to some exotic island they will enter by a unforgetable entry. mainly the airport experiance. take pools us regular people have ideas too

The late Sir Eric Gairy laid the foundation or the blueprint for the Airport, When he was ousted Cuba, started and completed it He gained independence for our country amid all the turmoil and confusion of that era. Somewhere in Grenada is already named after Bishop; somewhere is named after Herbert Blaize. Why can't somewhere be named after Gairy? Do all Grenadians suffer from amnesia, or they hate to the point of forgetting?Grenada is synonymous with the name Eric Gairy-so is Maurice Bishop. Give Gairy some mention. Have a heart, Grenadians

In no way should this Airport be re-named after Maurice Bishop. Bishop lied and fooled the people of Grenada for his own selfish intentions, when things started going rough, he tried to speak to the US and the then President of the US denied him an audience and sent a Representative, but Bernard Coard was after him then for stepping back from the cause. Bishop was a communist, Bishop had nothing to do with the new Airport, that was Gairy's idea. He stalled putting it in St. Georges as he said everything was already in the town and he did not want to have it there. He wanted to spread things over the island and was looking at Grenville, but there were some underlying situations with the land in the area. Incidentally Gairy said he wanted nothing named after him. He was also taking people lands away from them without any cause and giving them away to his cronies, and now this too have caused our biggest problem with Agriculture. Bishop was picking up people without any cause and putting them in jail including even some of his own followers. Nah in no way should that Airport be named after him. Lets give Tillman a chance. The current name of the airport is just fine as it is.Maurice Bishop is no example in any way.
