POLICE SHOOTING
The Royal Grenada Police Force confirms a shooting incident in the Hope Vale area of St. George’s. The incident occurred this morning, March 11th 2009, at around 10.20 during an operation conducted by members of the Drug Squad of the R.G.P.F. While executing a warrant to conduct a search of his premises, Augustine Antoine violently resisted the action of the Officers, and received a bullet wound to the waist. Antoine was then taken to the General Hospital for treatment where he remains in a stable condition. Members of the Drug Squad and the Criminal Investigation Department are presently conducting and investigation into the incident. From The RGPF INSIDE GRENADA NEWS

POLICE SHOOTING
As you formulate an opinion, keep in mind that this report came from the RGPF. In my experience there are usually 3 sides to every story. My information is that the police wen to the wrong house and did not identify themselves. Mr. Antoine therefore had every right to protect himself from what he perceived to be imminent bodily harm. If my understanding is correct, Mr. Antoine's family should retain competent legal counsel and comence action against the RGPF and Government of Grenada for among other things, assault and battery; and negligent hiring, training and supervision of its police officers. Today its Mr. Antoine, tomorrow it may be you.

Just want to say it’s a sad situation, when our police force has to resolve to extreme force to carry out a search warrant. My observation of the behavior and mind set of some of the people on the island, is lawlessness at any cost. Don’t know all the details surrounding the incident; let’s just hope that the action was justifiable. I strongly believe that law and order should be the corner stone of a just, civilize and a progressive society of which I think Grenada belongs. For those who are defiant of the laws of the nation, they should pay the ultimate cost, for their ignorance. The act of lawlessness and misbehavior reflex badly on other fellow Grenadians who are law abiding citizen; we should do what is necessary to keep Grenada clean.
