A strong contingent of young athletes, led by rising star Mickel Joseph, will represent Carriacou and Petite Martinique at the 2009 National Inter-primary Schools’ track and field championship in Grenada this week.
Joseph, who dominated the under 13 boys' category of his school’s recent sports meet and the GUT Inter-primary sports meet, is one of 39 athletes who will be leaving Tuesday, March 24, for the games in St. George’s.
Apart from Joseph, sports officials in Carriacou and Petite Martinique say they have high expectations for outstanding performances from other team members, especially Ziggy Stewart, Zachary Logan, Antonio McIntosh and Jeanette Stanislaus.
The 39 athletes are drawn from the five primary schools in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. They are being accompanied to Grenada by Sports Officer Joel Lendore, assistant coach Francis McLawrence and teachers representing all the primary schools.
The Inter-primary Schools’ championship takes place on Thursday, March 26, at the National Stadium.
