SUCCESSFUL LAUNCH OF GYUP PROGRAM IN CARRIACOU

Hillsborough, March 26th- The Grenada Government has a clear vision to create a better nation for all citizens, says Honourable Patrick Simmons. The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports & Culture made the comment in an address at the official launch in Carriacou of the Grenada Youth Upliftment Program. More that 100 participants, including 21 from Petite Martinique, attended the successful launch of the programme on Wednesday, March 25, at the Resource Centre. Mr. Simmons said that despite challenges, the government of Prime Minister Tillman Thomas plans to forge ahead with enhancing the living conditions of all citizens. He also implored on the young people to maximize the opportunities they are being given with initiatives such as the Youth Upliftment Programme. Other speakers at the event included local evangelist, Pastor Junior McNeil, and Anderson Matheson, Personal Assistant to the Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs. Pastor McNeil told the programme participants that God is important in their journey to empowerment and self-improvement. He urged them to take the training opportunity seriously, set themselves goals and be humble. The Personal Assistant advised the participants that they should grasp the chance at training, which takes into account the varied interests of young people. The Grenada Youth Upliftment Programme, which has four components, offers skills training in areas such as agriculture, cosmetology, building technology and hospitality arts.
