ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, MARCH 27, 2009_ On February 7th, 2009 the first public fund raiser was staged to solicit funds for the Restoration of York House. A small committee organized the Grand Independence Ball at the residence of the Prime Minister, under the patronage of Honourable Tillman Thomas and Mrs. Sandra Thomas. The event was well supported by the diplomatic community and the business sector and realized a profit of ECD 15,000. A cheque in this amount was presented to Prime Minister Thomas at his office on Friday March 20th, 2009 in the presence of the members of the York House Restoration Committee. The Committee records its appreciation to all who supported this effort, and the service providers who worked tirelessly to ensure that this event could have been counted as one of the most memorable and classy on the Independence Calendar. Prime Minister Thomas expressed his appreciation to the committee for the initiative. He said plans for the new facility were being completed. The restoration of York House was one of the projects the Prime Minister discussed with then United States President George Bush during the Prime Minister’s visit to Washington last year. The US President gave a commitment to rebuilding the facility which housed the Grenada Parliament. From: Government of Grenada INSIDE GRENADA NEWS
