On Friday 27th March 2009, Grenada and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States lost a treasured son and diplomat – George Randolph Earle “Mario” Bullen. “Mario as he was affectionately known was a man of great humility, deep inner strength, and a talented diplomat. Ambassador Bullen, epitomized the very essence of a Grenadian and Caribbean Representative; national and regional pride, humble but effective leadership, likeable but firm. He served Grenada and the OECS with great distinction, and dedication. In 1980 Ambassador Bullen was appointed Grenada’s first Ambassador to the European Union. There he served with distinction. He later served as the OECS High Commissioner to Canada and the ECS Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union. While serving as ECS Ambassador to the European Union (2003 -2007) he was Chairman of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States Consultative Group on Sugar, and was three times Coordinator of the CARIFORUM Group of Ambassadors. In addition to his outstanding professional skills, he was a charming, kind and hospitable man. Ambassador Bullen will be missed by all. INSIDE GRENADA NEWS
