CARRIACOU SWIMMERS PREPARE TO PARTICIPATE IN SWIM MEET ...
Hillsborough, March 31st- Carriacou and Petite Martinique swimmers may not have the facilities of their regional competitors but they still plan on making a big splash in an upcoming competition in Castries, St. Lucia. On Friday April 3rd, a ten-member delegation the Carriacou and Petite Martinique Snappers Swim Club will be travelling to St.Lucia to participate in a swim meet, which includes athletes from other Caribbean islands. The team, which includes Shadel Peters, Ali and Allen Mongal, Ronaldo Noel and Ria Benjamin, will be accompanied by coach Rachael Modeste. The Ministry of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs has contributed $2000 and boat tickets to ensure the athletes’ presence at the swim meet. It’s in keeping with a pledge by Prime Minister Tillman Thomas’ government’s to ensure young people in Carriacou and Petite Martinique are exposed to all sporting disciplines. The athletes of the Carriacou and Petite Martinique Snappers Swim Club do not have a swimming pool to conduct their practice sessions. They use the sea for practice sessions, but are hopeful of making their mark in the pool at the St. Lucia meet.
