MAKING PEOPLE'S LIVES EASIER

The National Democratic Congress, while in opposition, promised to decentralise certain services that traditionally were only available in the capital city, St. George's. Now nine months in government, the NDC has already begun making good on its promise. The people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique always have had to travel to Grenada to obtain documents such as drivers’ licence and birth certificate. But Senator George Prime, Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, says that practice is about to change. "A desk that is set up in Carriacou can, together with the police, now issue driving license,” said Mr. Prime, who is also Leader of Government Business in the Senate. “The police can come to Carriacou fortnightly. People don’t have to come to Grenada.’’ The Minister, a former Deputy Leader of the NDC, also announced government plans for extending certain healthcare services in Carriacou and Petite Martinique. “We have a series of services which are now being put in train that is making life much more easy and comfortable for the people,’’ he said. “We propose to extend it to hospital services. Government’s responsibility is to make the people’s lives easier and less burdensome.” Source: ndcgrenada.org
