GRENADA – As part of its overall cost reduction strategy, the management of Courts Grenada Ltd. will be reducing its staff my four workers. This decision was arrived at after the labour department was able to break an impasse between the management of Courts and the bargaining agent for the workers – the Commercial and Industrial Workers’ Union.
The company has been affected by a downturn is sales as a result of the slowdown in economic activity.
Trade Union leaders are urging businesses to not engage in retrenchment of workers as a first resort but should try to work out alternative arrangements since it is better for workers to have ‘...a little in their hands than to have nothing at all,’ according to Ms Madonna Harford, President of Grenada’s Trade Union Council.
