ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, APRIL 11th , 2009_ Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas has congratulated Kirani James (45.45) for his record breaking performance in the 400 meters race at the 38th CARIFTA Games in St.Lucia earlier today. He also congratulated Rondell Bartholomew (45.58) on his second place finish in the race, in a time that was faster than the previous record (46.35) established by Jamaica’s Usain Bolt on the 19th April 2003. The following is the full text of his message. “On behalf of the government and people of Grenada, I extend congratulations to you, on your suburb record breaking performance at the 38th Carifta games. Your hard work and commitment to your sport are paying dividends and we look forward to greater things in the future. All Grenada stands proud of you. I also give tribute to Rondell, whose performance allowed Grenada to take first and second places in the race that featured some of the finest competitors in the 400 meters in your age category in the Caribbean. You both have made this a truly great moment for Grenada. I wish to also recognize the other members of the Carifta team who are doing very well at the games in St. Lucia, by improving their personal performances and are contributing to Grenada’s medal count at the games. We wish you all a successful 2009 Carifta Games.”
