SPORTS MINISTRY MOURNS THE PASSING OF FORMER NATIONAL S...  
ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, April 21, 2009 - The Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture wishes to express condolences to the family of Stephen “Jaley” Bernard of Grenville Street, St. George’s but who resided at Morne Toute, St. George’s. “Jaley” Bernard died at the General Hospital on Sunday April 19th, 2009 at the age of 49. Sports Minister Hon. Patrick Simmons remembers “Jaley” as a talented sportsman who played both football and basketball in the 70s and 80s. “We played basketball for many years in both domestic and regional tournaments,” Hon. Patrick reminiscent on “Jaley” Bernard. “We played for the national team in the 80s, we played in the St. Andrew’s League, we participated in the Windward Islands tournament in Dominica in 1983 and were also members of the team that played against the Harlem Globe Trotters in Grenada,” he said. Grenadian journalist Lincoln “Toro” Depradine also remembers the late “Jaley” Bernard as “a classy and talented football and basketball player with a good attitude and a quick smile”. The President of the Grenada Football Association Ashley “Ram” Folkes described “Jaley” Bernard as an unselfish contributor to sports who found the time against all odds to assist in the coaching of football and basketball. “On behalf of the Football Community, my condolences to his family and all in sports,” Folkes said. its not how he died is how he lived,.At least he had a good time at one point doing the things he loved before he fell on hard times.I am glad he was able to do his sports at some point in his life.. may his sould rest in peace

My Condolensces go out to Jaley's family. I have known him since i was a little boy growing up on williamson road and playing for Honved second division. His brother Eddie is one of my best friend's whom i still speak to today. I really feel this death though i now reside in the United States. We will all miss You Jaley

lEARN OF THE SAD NEWS TODAY. The death of 'Jaley' I played basketball with him on the Carenage court. Condolences to him family especially 'Tigest' nuff respect.
