ST. GEORGE’S, April 22, 2009 – A senior government minister and executive member of the ruling National Democratic Congress says it’s “up to Grenada’’ to take steps to try and receive concrete benefits from talks recently held with officials of the United States and Canada. Foreign Minister Peter David, who is also General Secretary of the NDC, says there is a “new sense of hope’’ and signals of a “new attitude to the Caribbean’’ coming out of the Summit of the Americas held in Port of Spain, Trinidad. The Grenada delegation to the meeting included Mr. David, Prime Minister and Leader of the NDC Hon. Tillman Thomas, and Finance Minister and Deputy Party Leader, Nazim Burke. Foreign Minister David, in an interview with Eddie Frederick, said Prime Minister Thomas took the opportunity to have bilateral talks with Canadian PM Stephen Harper on Canada/Grenada relations. The NDC Government’s ongoing efforts to have Canada lift its visa restriction on Grenadians travelling to Canada was also raised in talks between Mr. Harper and Mr. David. Apart for discussions with United States President Barack Obama, the Grenada team also met with other top U.S. politicians such Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and New York Congressman Charles Rangel.
