PHYSICAL PLANNING STAFF LEGALLY EQUIPPED
ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA: Staff of the Physical Planning Unit are now more knowledgeable of their legal authority in carrying out their duties while on the job. They were enlightened on Wednesday 5th May 2009 at a meeting held at the Physical Planning Conference Room on what is expected of them in the execution of their duties and the legal implications that can arise if they don’t do their job properly. Facilitator of the meeting was Crown Counsel, Adebayo Oluwu, attached to the Legal Affairs Department. Some of the areas covered at the meeting were the preparation of field reports and the issuing of enforcement notices and stop orders. Counsel Oluwu encouraged the participants to familiarize themselves with the laws which govern their duties, since this would make their job much easier. Also at the meeting was the Chief Technical Officer of the Ministry of Works, Cecil Harris. He told the participants to look at their job as very important. Mr. Harris stated that the Physical Planning Unit is the guardian of the nation’s infrastructure and needs to ensure that the necessary steps are taken in order to shape strong structural developments in the country. One of the participants expressed his appreciation to the Head of the Physical Planning Unit, Cecil Frederick for initiating a meeting of this nature, to offer staff some legal guidance on how they should operate. He stated it was long overdue however he is grateful for the opportunity given to him and the other participants. The participants included Senior and Junior Building Inspectors.
