GOVERNMENT STRENGTHENS NADMA OPERATIONS
ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, WEDNESDAY, 20th MAY, 2009_ The Government of Grenada has taken steps to strengthen the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) with the appointment of a new National Disaster Coordinator. The Public Service Commission has appointed Mr. Benedict Peters to the position of National Disaster Coordinator, as of May 18th 2009. Mr. Peters is a former employee of the Ministry of Health. Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, under whose responsibility NADMA falls, welcomed the appointment, which he regards as “timely”. “It is important that NADMA be properly staffed and organized, in order to manage our preparation for the 2009 hurricane season. This is part of our reorganization of this very critical agency that we hope will start the process of ensuring national mobilization and preparation in the event of a natural disaster,” the Prime Minister said. The Prime Minister has called on all Grenadians to take the threats from natural disasters seriously, prepare early and put plans in place for the care of family, protection of important documents and the preservation of life and property in the event that a natural disaster affects Grenada.
