The largest contingent of Grenadians in one semester, including several with academic honors, earned degrees at Midwestern State University’s May commencement ceremonies.
Lisa Ayanna Baptiste of Chantimelle, St. Patrick and Camilla Caneta Charles of Grenville, St. Andrew both attained magna cum laude honors. Both earned the BBA degree in Finance.
Donley Antoine of LaFillette, St. Andrew graduated with cum laude honors earning a bachelor of science in Mechanical Engineering; Tiemmone Charles of St. George’s earned cum laude honors in Management Information Systems; and Caroline Roberts of River Sallee, St. Patrick earned cum laude honors in Interdisciplinary Studies and Special Education.
Gabriella George of Harvey Vale, Carriacou, earned her master’s degree in Business Administration. She previously earned the baccalaureate degree in 2005.
Also among the 16 Grenadian graduates were Tricia Alexis, BS Nursing; Deidra Augustine and Kharene Mason-Glean, BS Biology; Mario Daniel, Leron Marrast, and David Marshall, BS Mechanical Engineering; Melissa Frazer, Applied Radiography; Camica Humphrey, Linwyse Joseph, and Alroy Phillip, Finance;
Grenada’s Consul General to New York, Derrick James, attended the ceremony and spoke to a dinner honoring the 42 Caribbean graduates and their families. He noted that there was a need for the talents of recent graduates in the Caribbean and urged them to consider returning home.
Barbadian entertainer Rupee performed at the annual graduation concert and was wildly cheered by over 400 Caribbean students and guests. Midwestern has graduated over 600 Caribbean students in the past 14 years including almost 200 Grenadians.
Twenty-five (25) new students from Grenada have been accepted to Midwestern State University this August, and will be part of over 900 recruits from the Caribbean in the history of the fifteen year old program.
