OPPOSITION LEADER CRITICIZES NDC
click
St George’s, Grenada: Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell, is calling on the NDC administration to refrain from using the Royal Grenada Police Force to achieve its political objective. Commenting on the plan to detain popular radio host, Allan Campbell and subsequently the directive given for him to present himself at the Grenville Police Station for questioning, he said it is symbolic of the dark period 1979-1983 which no Grenadian should want to go back to. It is an established fact that democracy and freedom of speech which has bloomed in Grenada thereafter under the Keith Mitchell administrations is under attack today. The use of the Police in an effort to intimidate Mrs. Cheryl Williams and Mr. Hugh Wildman (former advisor to the Keith Mitchell led administration) and now Mr. Allan Campbell is totally unacceptable. The reason given by the police for questioning Campbell is a clear indication that the instruction came from the highest level and that the motive is political with an aim to stifle the voice of the ordinary people of the country. According to Dr. Mitchell, the recent decision by the NDC administration to prevent the live broadcast of Parliament is another sign of the Government’s intention to silence the voice of the opposition and the voice of the people. Dr. Mitchell therefore calls on the National Democratic Congress to desist from it’s vindictive political activities of police and parliamentary harassment and to refrain from stifling freedom of speech that many fought hard and died for. Most importantly the Opposition leader calls on the NDC administration to focus on governing the country to bring more benefits to the people of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Mr Hangman if what you say about these two gentlemen well we have to keep an eye on them and i am sure uncle tilly knows we in spice isle cannot have any misbehaving within government and i say this politicians assigned to what ever post give to them should be allowed to do that job and not interfer in other matters that is the responsibility of another, for example the foreign and tourisum should deal with his departmentbecause that is the job that is given to him and that goes for the other ministers in government also.

Mr K C M and the rest of HM opposition members oh how i wish your government had behave in the way you are now calling on the present government to behave towards Mr Campbell and Ms Williams, and as you mention Mr Wildman, sir please please when are you and your supporters going to stop this mischief making and get down and explain to our people your government behaviour and conduct when you were in government ,sir the RGPF and the DPP is there to uphold the law when ever they and the DPP not the government believed that persons is acting or behaving in a manner outside the law,we and sepecially persons in public life have to set standards so that others can follow and as KCM says we do not want to return back to the old days,we have got to move forward yes there are still persons who find it difficult to come to terms with this new government and its policies, but they and the rest of us should remember that we voted for this change of government and we owe to ourselves to give them a chance for change and not to do things that may result in disturbance or civil unrest we have seen to many of these type of incidence before and therefore we must be on the lookout for persons with vested interest, therefore thoes who wishes to return to thoes very bad old days, then the law has to act on behalf of all of us in the interesr of all of us and thats why i call upon the leader of the opposition and his supporters to be careful in the language being used especially as they are in the public eye ,yes we have to be careful in the things we say to our people we owe it to them to be positive and meaningful on behalf of all our people.
