ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, WEDNESDAY, 3rd JUNE, 2009_ Grenada’s Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas is looking to Austria for assistance in the development of alternative energy, tourism and the performing arts. The Prime Minister discussed a range of issues with the Austrian Ambassador to Grenada, H.E Mr. Thomas Schuller-Gotzburg during a courtesy call to the Botanical Gardens on Tuesday June 2nd 2009. The Ambassador told Prime Minister Thomas that Austria was “rich” in harnessing energy from non traditional sources, including wind, solar and thermal resources. The Prime Minister noted that Grenada was already looking at areas in which the country can benefit from such assistance. He pointed out that a plan to power government buildings by utilising solar energy is already under discussion. The Prime Minister welcomed an offer from the Austrians to continue working toward the setting up of a tourism programme within one of the institutions of higher learning in Grenada, with specific reference to the T.A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC), to accommodate students from across the Caribbean. “Given our strengths in this area, we believe this will help greatly with your tourism,” Honorary Consul Daniela Grdseloff-Gwercher, who accompanied the Ambassador on the visit, told Prime Minister Thomas. She also confirmed that Austria was helping to develop the performing arts in Grenada, with the visit of a leading Opera performer at a date to be announced. She said Grenadians will be able to access the training through the newly established Seales School of Music and the Performing Arts on Lucas Street in St. George’s. In addition, the Ambassador pointed out that arrangements will be made for the visit of one of Austria’s leading Concert Pianists to Grenada and a number of other countries in the region this year. Prime Minister Thomas thanked the Austrian delegation for the visit and welcomed further cooperation between the two countries.
