Fellow Grenadians, We, the family of 7-year-old Sherdeen Buckmire, are asking for your help, prayers and support for our little angel. Sherdeen was born in Grand Bras, St. Andrews, Grenada, May 5, 2002, to Shirley Modeste-Buckmire and Raymond Buckmire. During a visit to the USA in December of 2008 with her mother, Sherdeen became ill and was admitted to Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn where she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She has so far completed a six-week regime of radiation and chemotherapy. She is currently receiving additional chemotherapy and attending follow-up clinics. Her main support system is her family and friends, and lots of prayers. She is currently being home-schooled. Sherdeen is also physically disabled, especially on her right side and in public must be confined to a wheelchair in order to move around. Apart from her physical disabilities, she suffers from the discomforting side-effects of chemotherapy, including headaches, nausea and vomiting, mood swings and highly irregular sleep patterns. Her mother's schedule revolves around Sherdeen's in no uncertain terms, and caring for her daughter is spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically challenging. In addition, there is the obvious financial challenge that her mother must face every additional day she spends in New York City. We are appealing to the community at large for their prayers and moral support in fighting this debilitating and life-threatening illness. We are also very grateful for all the support that has been received so far from generous individuals and organizations, especially the Consular General of Grenada in NY (Hon Derek James) With this in mind and given the current tough economic times that we are experiencing the family and friends of Sherdeen cordially invite you to patronize a fund-raiser in her honor on July 11, 2009, at the Marcus Garvey Center at 5105 Church Ave. (between 51st and 52nd streets) from 10pm to 4am.
