GRENADA MOTORING CLUB (GMC) EXPRESSES DISAPPOINTMENT WI...
The Grenada Motoring Club (GMC) is some what appalled and very disturbed by a story carried in on GBN-TV 7pm & 10pm Television Newscast on June 8th, 2009 where it was reported that "Sundays drag racing activity at Pearls, St. Andrew was marred by a stabbing incident which has resulted in the death of a young man". This statement is not only misleading, but it was also exaggerated to the point where it can cost the Grenada Motoring Club loss of Sponsorship, potential local and regional racers, and fans participation in our upcoming July 2009 Drag Wars. The unfortunate chopping incident at Pearls on Sunday June 7th, 2009 had absolutely nothing to do with the GMC Digicel Drag Wars. The Incident took place outside of the race venue (main road) and not within the race area. The Youngman (now deceased) after being stabbed, were being assisted by his friends to get to the Ambulance parked on the left side of the track (for the races). In crossing the track, the Youngman collapsed from where he was further assisted by Emergency Officials and taken to the Princess Alice Hospital where unfortunately, he later died from his injuries. The Grenada Motoring Club is indeed saddened by the incident and the death of the youngman, but at the same time, we are also concerned about the negative message being sent by the GBN's Newscast. Therefore, we are hereby demanding a retraction of the statement made by the Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN) namely that "Sundays drag racing activity at Pearls, St. Andrew was marred by a stabbing incident which has resulted in the death of a young man" which as mentioned before is very misleading. The Grenada Motoring would like to extend condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. We would also like to thank everyone who came out to support the past weekend Digicel Drag Wars and again remind everyone to keep the racing off the streets. Finally, we take this opportunity to remind persons that violence makes no sense, and that he who walks away, lives to see another day. FROM: Grenada Motoring Club
