Statistics obtained from the Grenada Drug Information Network (GRENDIN) revealed that for the period January to December 2008, one hundred and seventy three (173) persons were admitted to the Grenada General hospital for drug-related problems. This number comprised of one hundred and forty (140) or 81% males and thirty three (33) or 19 % females. The majority of persons admitted were males forty (40) years and over. The following graph shows the age range of these persons (See Attached Image) The statistics also revealed that the majority of persons were admitted to hospital for medical problems associated with the consumption of alcohol. It was noted that for the period under review, alcohol, followed by cocaine and marijuana respectfully, were the drugs of choice by persons who were admitted to the hospital, with drug related medical problems. The following chart shows the number of males and females in this category. It is the mechanism through which the Government of Grenada coordinates the collection, analysis and dissemination of statistical information on controlled drugs and related information. It was established in December 2002.
