Minister for Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs Senator the Hon. George Prime was among persons at the Cultural & Sporting Centre in Lauriston to witness the magnificent victory of the Mt.Royal Cricket Club at the final of the Republic Bank Domestic Cricket Tournament. Mt.Royal who batted first scored a total of 210 runs while L'Esterre was only able to reply with 166. In delivering brief remarks at the closing ceremony of the tournament, Minister Prime said that the tournament shows what can be accomplished through partnerships as the government provides the facilities, Republic Bank the sponsorship and the Carriacou United Cricket Board responsible for organizing and running the tournament. He said that the government views sports as critical for the development of our people especially young people as it provides an outlet for them to engaage in positive activities. General Manager of Credit of Republic Bank Anthony Clarke said the bank was happy to be associated with the development of cricket on the sister islands and pledged their continued support. Also attending the final was Cecil Greenidge, President of the Grenada Cricket Association. Meanwhile, some of the outstanding players during the tournament included Aldon Moses, Milton Joseph, Enroy Modeste andLivingston Andrew from the Mt.Royal Cricket Team who was awarded the best player overall he was given the Minister's bat among other prizes.
