The development of cricket on the sister islands of Carriacou & Petite Martinique is on a upward trend with the construction of a turf wicket at the Cultural & Sporting Centre in Lauriston. The wicket which was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs and Ministry of Sports was officially commissioned on Sunday June 21st, 2009. For Sports Officer within the Ministry of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs Joel Lendore it was a special moment as he recalled at a meeting of the management team of the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports & Culture the idea for the turf wicket was thought of and today it is a reality. Lendore further added that this will boost the sport of cricket. Minister for Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs Sen. the Hon George Prime dressed in his cricket regalia and who once played cricket recognized the work of contractor Michael Smith from Grenada and the men who worked along with him and said he will work to develop similar wickets at the playing fields in Mt.Pleasant and Petite Martinique. Following the commissioning of the turf wicket, the first match to be played at the centre, which was the final of the Republic Bank Domestic Cricket Tournament between Mt.Royal and L'Esterre was played, Mt.Royal was victorious.
