Hillsborough, July 6th- Senator the Hon. George Prime has hailed the opening of a new toilet and bathroom facility on the famous Paradise Beach in L’Esterre, Carriacou. The facility was officially declared open on July 3rd at a short ceremony attended by Senator Prime, as well as by representatives of the Grenada Rural Enterprise Project (GREP) and the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Community Development. It was a happy moment for Senator Prime to see the project – which had experienced many setbacks come to fruition almost one year after the National Democratic Congress of Prime Minister Tillman Thomas won general elections. Senator Prime, Minister of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs, commended the L'Esterre South Striders for conceptualizing the project. The facility is for all the people of the 13-square-mile-island, as well as for tourists who frequent Paradise Beach., emphasized Mr. Prime, who is also Leader of Government Business in the Senate. The facility is also an avenue for further development of the area, added Kallan Simon, an official from the Ministry of Lands, Housing & Community Development. He called on citizens to use it effectively and to ensure it is maintained at a high standard. The GREP-funded project was coordinated by Edward Fedee.Donessa Joseph, GREP Community Development Officer, delivered brief remarks on behalf of the organisation and Mr. Fedee at the opening ceremony. She reiterated that GREP’s focus is on “people-centred development,’’ and described the new toilet and bathroom facility as a “significant milestone’’ for the island of Carriacou.
